Alan Stivell

Alan Stivell (born 6th January 1944 as Alan Cochevelou) is one of the most well-known Bretons in the world and the best-known harper since the times of Turlough O'Carolan. He spreads the Breton culture and language through songs and tunes since early 50s. It was his father who has made the first celtic harp in Brittany after long centuries of silence. Alan started learning playing it since the age of 9 and in the same year he performed in public. He recorded his first album when he was 15 and by now he has already released his 22th. In 1967 Alan Cochevelou changed his name to Stivell which in Breton means "a source". This man means a lot to Brittany and without him the Breton culture wouldn't probably be what it currently is.

There is too much information about this great man to write in just one weblog but you can visit his official website and read the rest.
